The Crockett County DeerFest was created 25 years ago as a community wide appreciation banquet for hunters. Typically 1,000 to 1,500 people attend the event and approximately $40,000 in prizes are raffled. Over the years, the DeerFest Association has raised enough money to build the Crockett County Convention Center in which the event is now housed. After construction, the building was donated to the county.
Again this year 10% of the admission will be donated to the West Texas Rehabilitation Center of Ozona. After the 2012 event we donated $2,000 to the WT Rehab of Ozona.
The DeerFest Association has purchased A/V equipment and put a roof on the community day care center. The association helped finance the construction of the Crockett County EMS building. In 2012 the DeerFest contributed to the American Cancer Society, Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Crockett County Care Center, Crockett County EMS, Helping Hands, Crockett County Youth Civic, Crockett County 4-H, FFA, Knights of Columbus, Ozona Little League Baseball, OLPH Youth, Ozona Chamber of Commerce, Ozona Community Center, Ministerial Alliance, Ozona Volunteer Fire Dept, Ozona Women's Forum, Ozona Women's League, Perceptor Mu Chi Chapter, Project Graduation, Relay for Life, Toys for Tots, West Texas Rehab, YMCA Youth Football, Crockett County Library, DARE, Salvation Army, Texas Challenge Academy, The Ozona Wellness Center and The Wounded Warrior Project .
The recipients of the 2012 Crockett County DeerFest Scholarships in the amount of $2,000 each were Cuatro Jones and Cris Taylor and in the amount of $1,000 was Lisa Dorrough. All monies are raised from the sale of door prize tickets, admission fees and our donors' generous contributions. Among prizes given away in 2012 were 80+ guns, numerous gift certificates, any number of wonderful miscellaneous items, 4-wheelers and a 2012 Jeep Wrangler. This year we will be giving away over 80 guns, $10,000 in gift cards, a Jeep and numerous other prizes.
Without your help, none of this would be possible. We humbly ask that you keep us on your list of charitable donations so that we may continue to pay it forward. The address is P. O. Box 3163, Ozona, TX 76943. Crockett County DeerFest would not be what it is today without the foresight of the founding members or the continued community support. We will need your support again this year. It is the people of Ozona, with the help of Crockett County hunters who have made DeerFest what it is.
